Saturday 10th September saw the first training session at Moor Mead in the Autumn mizzle/fine rain. Thankfully the players were sporting their new Joma training tops (see photo) which really look the part. Preparations are going well for a friendly fixture against a local school on 24th September.
Meanwhile in Marble Hill, the league team opened their season with a battling 2-0 win over a strong Tattenham Rovers team. The visitors had the better of the opening half, with the hosts taking some time to adjust to the larger pitch. On debut, Sonny gave a master class in the centre half role - well timed tackles and headers to clear the danger. Giulio, captaining the side, was another stand out - playing the ball neatly from the left side and putting in some tackles which would have Stuart Pearce wincing. The second half saw Moor Mead get better possession and Nathan and Freddie S took their goals well. However, the Pogba style dabs to celebrate that ensued didn't marry up with the Barry Fry style coaching given to the home side. In summary, great work rate and determination from Moor Mead. Once Fry allows the more cultured coaching types to take the reins, it is expected that free-flowing football will resume and the team will add some flair to their play. Next up, Teddington Athletic at home. WH.
